Men Taught How To Speak While Women Planned What To Teach

by Cecile Cinco

February 17, 2008 commenced the year’s UCG-Manila’s Women’s Club at 9:30 in the morning while the Spokesman and Graduate Club in the afternoon at 2:30. Both clubs are open to both genders, 18 and above, regardless of marital status.

As this is the 2nd year, a set of officers were appointed by the Director of the said clubs. Mr. Rey Evasco appointed Bong Remo as the President, Wilson Cinco as the Vice President, Abraham Lorenzo as the Secretary, Bobby Chan as the Treasurer and Mon Infantado as the Sgt. at Arms for the men’s club while Mrs. Cynthia Evasco appointed Grace Remo as the President, Kathleen Santos as Vice President, Cecile Cinco as Secretary and Rowie Decena as Treasurer for the women’s club.

While the official time of the women to start and end is from 9:30am to 2pm, the continued and ended even after the men was over from 2:30pm to 4:40pm. It’s just to say that women really have so much to say and impart to fellow women.

While men were oriented (since many first timers joined) on how to treat their lessons as a speaker and evaluator, topics master, toastmaster and timer, and given assignments for next meeting’s presentation of speakers, the women already made plans and schedule of what they want to accomplish for the whole year.

Since cooking is always a part of the women’s club meeting, and preparation of snacks every week’s fellowship right after Sabbath Service meetings, a schedule is already in effect up until next club meeting. The women also prepare the snacks of the men’s club snacks.

The women expanded beyond food as viand. In the succeeding meetings, suggested trainings are looked forward to: food preservation, baking, hamming (chicken), yoghurt making, trinket/bracelet making, crafting, slim body tips, dining etiquette, personality development, exercising and singing.

This year, speech was also included as part of the monthly activities. Lots were drawn and 4 will prepare a 3-minute “This Is My Life” speech. (I wonder how much story of a woman can fit in 3 minutes. :D As for me, I’d rather write but since my name was also drawn, I’ll have to take the challenge.)

The main motive for the club is to edify and build one another and be a light the family and community, giving no way to idle talk nor gossip. It is a venue to grow in grace and in knowledge, not only spiritually but also physically, emotionally and intellectually.

Next meeting, on March 16, it will be special. In between the two club meetings, adult choir and youth choir members will be treated to basic lessons on how to understand and read the music score instead of merely listening and following a CD accompaniment to specific voice assignment. This treat will be given by the adult choir conductor, Mr. Benny Lorenzo and his daughter, our pianist, Ruth Lorenzo.

Since the youth will be present for the music lessons, there will be more people than usual during this Sunday’s meeting. It will be a great fellowship, I’m sure, for the Church family.
