WordPress 2.5 is now ready, been so since March 29. In the past I’ve tried the automatic upgrade but I just got frustrated (no, I rarely get frustrated…I just found a better way) when there was some problem with handling the database so I thought there must be a better way.
Here is what I did and do from then on, which you can follow if you wish to:
1. Ok, load your FTP client and login so you can see your files on your computer and files on the net.
2. Upload all files from the root (those are loose files other than those in the folders). That will overwrite your files on the net.
3. Take note that you do not touch or change or overwrite wp-config.php (unless you want to edit the wp-config-sample.php of 2.5, you just have to open your old wp-config.php that’s been running on the net to get the info, unless you’ve saved it elsewhere or you just plain memorized it).
4. Delete folder wp-includes from the net.
5. Upload new wp-includes from your computer.
6. Delete wp-admin folder from the net.
7. Upload new wp-admin from your computer.
8. From your address bar, type your domainname.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php and click yes (or OK, I forgot what was used).
9. That’s it!
