Women’s Club: An Avenue Of Learning

May 11, 2008 was another successful month for the UCG-Manila Women’s Club members, which is the 4th monthly meeting for the year since February.

As the club secretary, I read the last month’s minutes. It was followed by Tongue Twisting to be able to be relaxed especially for the speakers. After, the scheduled speeches by Cora Evangelista (my mom) and Grace Remo (our club president) gave the listeners more idea about the speakers as they gave their “This Is My Life” speech. Next month’s speech presenters were drawn afterwards and will be given by Elda Ellamil, Lourdes Javier, Madz Verzuela and Loretta Panlaqui, in that order.

Afterwards, we started

cooking. We had chicken burger

and fresh lumpia. We also had chicken shanghai as a variation of the burger mix. Both chicken recipes were presented by Grace Remo. The fresh lumpia was presented by Cora Evangelista. She also presented how to cure pineapple to spread its sweet taste all over. We had a

great lunch together with the Spokesman and Graduate Club men who were waiting at the other side of the hall partition. The fresh lumpia was served to the men’s club for their snacks.

The Knowledge Channeling Feature was learning how to analyze handwriting, which was my first time to present the subject with talking, to a group. So I guess I started to overcome the fear of presenting to a group. Being more of a writer than a speaker, it was quite a feat for me. (Maybe sometime we can also learn cosmetology.)

The women were able to learn the following as was posted on the bulletin board:

If a person is onion-skinned (or not) so we can be more careful in joking around with our sensitive brothers and sisters, or anyone, for that matter.
If a person is naturally introvert or not, so we can understand why certain people â€œsnobâ€ you and others treat you as if theyâ€™ve known you for so long.
If a person has a keen or slow comprehension so we can be more patient to people who just canâ€™t cope as easily than the others.
If a person is naturally creative and artistic so we know who we can tap. (If the person is also an introvert, this talent will not just show, except by handwriting.)
If a person is good in emergencies, or if a person will panic.
If a person is a procrastinator or not so you know how early you should delegate a task and how much buffer you can allot before the real deadline.
If a person youâ€™re dealing with has the tendency, or really, dishonest, which can save you from scammers.
If a person is naturally stingy or extravagant.
If a person is pessimistic or optimistic.
If a person is problematic at the moment.

They actually analyzed their own handwriting so they were able to see for themselves the accuracy of their newfound learning.

For next month, we are going to have pineapple tart, apple pie and kare-kare. Our Knowledge Channeling Feature will be Healing With Pressure Points, to be presented by Loretta Panlaqui.
