Airconditioners are considered an important appliance that spells a sale in almost any business location that considers the comfort of clients in addition to their own. But, airconditioners are also what make the electric bill soar high. If you haven’t done so, you can still do something to limit your kilowatt per hour consumption to the bare minimum.
First, if you’re yet to buy air conditioner, make sure that the capacity is not too small or too big. It has to be just right for the room you would like to airconize. 
If you have a centralized aircon, you should also have the small portable ones for use in cases there’s just a few of you in one room. No need to have the kitchen cool if there is no one there, right?
If you need to cool the whole house, make sure that no leakage goes to the basement or attic which only give lodging to your once-in-a-blue-moon stuff or the garage where only your car and tools are housed.
Install light-colored blinds that can repel the sun’s heat during the day. Or, a light colored curtain or drapes will also do if you don’t like blinds which is actually difficult to clean when you have to.
Limit your aircon use during the night. Instead, open your windows to welcome fresh air. Install window screen if you don’t want any insects flying in.
Have your aircon filter cleaned regularly once or twice a month. Dust build up prevents air flow so if your area is dustier than other areas, cleaning up the filter will give your aircon breathing space.
Buy one of those power saver gadgets. When you switch on your aircon, plug one of those. Actually, whenever you have an appliance that uses a motor, you have to use the power saver gadget to control the use of electricity that nothing is wasted. The gadget actually cuts the consumption 30% less. I can’t explain the technicality of it but as explained in layman’s terms, electricity that’s supposed to just get wasted are put to use. Well, I don’t have to know how my stomach works so I can eat, right? It just works. Also, the electric company approved of the gadget so it’s not in any way stealing from them.
