My second daughter, who is now 11, told me some months ago what she always looks forward to. She said there are three seasons in a year: the summer (Church) outing, the Feast of Tabernacles, and the yearend (Church) outing.
The Feast is an annual celebration. The other two are annual Church activities and she looks forward to them because of the swimming. It’s only a pool big enough for about 80. Whether we hold it where available, there’s always a separate pool for the kids. Somehow she has learned to manage underwater and can somehow tread in the adult pool. When we have those activities, my kids are usually the first to get in the pool and the last to come out. They maximize their stay because it will be another half year before they can be back again.
I love swimming too. It used to be when I was living in Olongapo that I would bike along the zigzag of Subic which is along the coast. After the tiring zigzag, I’d chain the bike to a post in one of the public beach resorts and go for a swim trying to be the farthest among those swimming. After resting by floating for about ten minutes, I’d go back to the shore, unchain my bike and ride back home dripping wet. By the time I get home, I’ve dried up. No, I wasn’t wearing any sexy swimwear. Just a short overall that’s light enough even worn dripping wet but thick enough so my insides don’t show especially when dripping wet.
Oh, I miss those times…
