I have attempted several times to lose weight. Several times I’ve failed. Why did I fail? I’ve had a few successes but to a minimal extent. I’ve experienced the ‘success’ formula too but was not aware of it until the formula got out of reach. I’m not really obese to start with, though.
Below, I have identified what made several of my attempts fail.
- Not vain enough. Vanity has never been a good motivation for me. I believe in simple beauty. I go for functionality over anything fancy, personally. Should I change that? I don’t think so.
- Out of focus. Since I’m not obese, I can’t see my flabs as a major problem so I focus on something more important like work. I focus on what’s more important. Of course, that’s according to my standard.
- Busy. Although I control my time, still, I choose to work my brains out or play to give it some rest. Again, priority. Rest wins over vanity.
- No budget. Starving can make you thin but it will also make you haggard. The successful diet I’ve tried is having vegetables/fruits first, then protein, then minimal carbo last. In the Philippines, rice is our staple food. It’s also a lot cheaper than viand. We get our fill from rice so for a little amount of viand and loadful of rice, Filipinos do survive. When I have more than enough, I’m sure to get into this diet, even if I don’t eat rice…as long as there is ample fruits, vegetables and protein.
- Lazy. I know that exercise is very important but I don’t like the idea of getting myself to exercise. It must be in the form of some sport that I enjoy. That way I get the exercise out of playing. All my gym attempts never lasted for more than a month.
Basically, what works for me is the diet I just mentioned and getting into sports. Back when I had a slim and agile body, I was slim and agile because of my strenuous activities (cycling, swimming, hiking, volleyball, bowling) and I basically lived on whole milk. I can finish a Kg of milk in 2 days. I have it about 5 times a day with equal parts of milk and water. I rarely ate. Not because I didn’t want to but I was full enough. I did not even have to think of diet pills or consciously exercise! Of course, that’s just me. I’m not lactose-intollerant. I love it.
