People who worked with asbestos should make the effort to have medical checkup for possible mesothelioma. It’s a form of cancer that manifests when it’s it’s in its worse stage so the better you have a checkup, the more likely you’ll survive.
On the good side, cases are waning due to the ban of asbestos in many areas. It has hightened in the 70s and 80s but those who have not been treated are now old and could be in their worst stage.
Although it is considered rare, it is better for you to do your due diligence by having a checkup than wait for stage 4.
