Of course being an avid gamer myself, I have no problems with my kids playing games. My oldest child literally learned to read years before Kindergarten because he was tired of my having to read the storyline of his Zelda game. He also picked up some huge vocabulary words for his age as a result. He is now 15 and has been a straight A student all his life. Games can really enhance your mind through challenges and creativity. This is especially true when strategy is required. I have to say his intelligence was only enhanced with the challenges that gaming provided.
I see this in my four year old who is addicted to the Wii Big Brain Academy. I can see her skills increasing quickly such as the ability to pop balloons in numerical order and other advanced logical skills. Games can certainly be a fun way to improve your mind.

@Melinda, I agree! My eldest learned to direct her mouse when she was 1 1/2! Most of the loaded games were educational. Now my youngest is learning to type. She’s 10. They’re still limited, though, as they have to give way to me!
I remember my son being so little he fell out of the chair at the computer. ha ha They will be extremely computer literate. My son has even gotten into programming a little..messing with mods on a PC game that has a huge modding community and has learned a bit about going into the code and making changes. Being that he wants to go to MIT, that is right up his alley.
Yep they have to fight for computer time. I had to get my own work computer so I don’t compete.

Yeah, boys who are early computer-literate tend to be techie. Back in 1999 I had my own BBS. It was installed by a young teenager. Now I wonder where he is. Back then BBS owners are teenagers! Well, many of them.
There is no great skill needed to play. Good for very young children.
my kids love it.
I agree there are benefits to kids playing games especially if they are educational, but it should be accompanied with a good balance of other real life interacting games.
