How Can One Forgive And Forget?

by Cecile Cinco

Have you been hurt by someone in your life and you do not want to have anything to do with that person ever again? If it was someone you really do not know who robbed you, you will get angry and mad at first and tell everyone what happened but since you do not know the person, there is no way you can harbor any grudge against him or her.

It is also often the case that the people who hurt you the most are the people you care about. Sometimes the offense was just beyond your imagination that led your relationship into eternal sourness and bitterness.

If you call yourself a christian, though, you have to forgive before you can be forgiven by the Father above. Forgiving is actually a prerequisite of your own forgiveness. Loving your enemies is Christ’s commandment to His followers. That love is godly love. Agape love. How can you love if you are taking care of hard feelings for someone else? How can you forgive and forget?

Real forgiveness is actually the key. If you have truly forgiven, you should not be feeling any hurt anymore every time you remember the incident that made you mad or angry. You can talk with the person freely as if nothing happened in the past. When you have reached that point, then you have forgiven and forgotten.

How can you do that? If you truly wanted to follow Christ, you will love what He has commanded and you can ask help from Him to make you forgive and forget. It may take time but you have to help yourself to be accepting. Open your heart to forgiving and forgetting. Life will be a lot less stressful that way.
