It is not my right to keep anyone else from smoking unless they are my own children. Whatever it is that they find satisfying with smoke, I do not want to have a share. Actually, I’m asthmatic so I care so much about second hand smoke, not just for myself but for my family as well.

Whether you buy from the street or from an online smoke shop, it does not really matter to me. It’s your choice. What I care about is that smokers should do their smoking at the right place. The public is not your place since it is a common area so please have respect to others who do not want to have a share.

by Cecile Cinco

For two weeks now I have been experiencing frequent asthma attacks. Two months prior, my respiratory system was quite fine and quiet, free from the wheezing due to the attack.

When I ate a piece of canned sausage that had chicken before the first attack (2 weeks ago) I concluded that even the slightest trace of chicken can give me an attack. On another thought, maybe the preservatives could be the culprit this time.

A week passed by and I still had frequent attacks. If I had not bought an inhaler on the 2nd day of a a series of attacks I could be dead by now. Another realization came to me. The day before I ate the canned food I got slightly wet under the rain but I never had the chance to take a bath. I was out on the street on my way to buy a banduria. When I got wet, I ran to the nearest mall and waited for the rain to stop but it did not. When it was merely drizzling then I walked to my destination. It was hours after that I was able to go back home. It was the start of my coughing, itchy and sore throat and aching bones all over. I had the flu. That night I was chilling. I had no fever, though. The next day I felt ok…then I ate the canned food.

Now my conclusion is, since my immune system dropped because of the flu, eating something that caused me asthma attack became damaging. My respiratory system has not been well yet. I still have attacks several times a day and even in the middle of the night. Together with my sleeping habit these past 2 months (late to bed) and lack of exercise, I’m depriving my body to heal.

At least now I know. Next, I should do something about it.

by Cecile Cinco

Proper breathing has a lot to do with how our health goes…better, or worse.

I have asthma. I got it when I stopped my strenuous activities in 1990. Rather, it appeared. Not that I just wanted to stop but my situation robbed me of those activities. My immune system fell for lack of exercise. I did not like doing physical exercises. I want it in the form of biking, hiking, swimming. I’ve had several deadly attacks that I tried to control by holding my breath and slowly inhaling and exhaling through the nose. Little did I know that it was the right way to breathe. When I get fine again, I’d forget to breathe right (because I didn’t know then that was how to breathe right). In no time I will have attacks again. More often than not, I did not have an inhaler at hand. It was way out of the budget. When I did have it I often used it. Since I was not doing anything to make my immune system better, the frequency of attacks went as high as every 15 minutes.

In was only about 2 years ago that I learned the right way to breathe. As one of the tai-chi masters have said, “The nose is for breathing, the mouth is for eating.” Inhaling and exhaling slowly makes our body absorb the oxygen processed better. Using the nose is best as something there is made for breathing for health that is not used when breathing through the mouth. Only swimmers inhale through the mouth as the nostrils are too small to get as much air at the shortest time possible. Also, making use of our lower lungs maximizes our breathing benefit. You’ll know you’re using your lower lungs if when you inhale your stomach bulges instead of your chest. It takes conscious effort if you’re not used to it at first.

I am now on maintenance to help me not have attacks. It is good. I make the conscious effort too to breathe right. I skip my maintenance from time to time like a week or so and I don’t get serious attacks. I’m highly allergic to cigarette smoke…or any smoke for that matter…chemicals, perfumes and colognes, certain odors like that of seafood, certain climates like humid, too hot, and too cold, dust, and believe it or not, too much laughing.

Using a dehumidifier may help but it’s better to go to the source…correcting wrong breathing…so you can maximize the benefit of your dehumidifier.

I’ve had allergies since I was young. I remember my hands’ skin dries up and breaks. They’re rough. Washing dishes was not friendly. My mom said I had eczema. I don’t remember any treatment but somehow it vanished. Maybe because I was a kid then.

Now that I’m old, I have asthma. Looking back, it’s probably skin asthma. I’m on maintenance now that tames my asthma but I get some itches starting from the ends of my fingers when I got allergy attack.

Good thing my sense of smell is not much. Maybe I have learned to shut off the odors that trigger my asthma. Maybe my maintenance did that. I’m not sure. I remember before that I get attacks at the smell of perfume, cologne, or something odorously bad like a stagnant canal or garbage truck.

I’m full of allergies. They won’t go away but getting the immune system stronger will surely help.

This morning before hubby left for work I mentioned to him that the medication I’m taking to pacify my asthma has something negative. I don’t have attacks, right, since that’s what’s it supposed to do. The problem, though, is I don’t get myself to exercise. The effect is getting me weaker.

A little later I got a text message from hubby. He said what I said scared him and that I should start walking…and that’s an order! (He’s scared that I die first before he does!)

After eating a banana and some oatmeal, I went out and started brisk walking. I spent 55 minutes. On the way home I thought I should have counted the electric posts to measure how long I walked since each post is 50 meters from each other…but then it looks like it is no longer the standard. Good thing wikimapia can give me the answer and I learned that I brisk walked a total of 4.5km. Not bad for a start!

I may be having allergy relief but I also need the exercise to get my natural immune system stronger.

During my younger years, even up to now, I never had any skin care regimen except for bath soap and water as I bathe. I’ve tried Ponds for a short while but the regimen itself tires me and lessens the money in my wallet. Since I’m allergic to many things, I don’t wear makeup unless it is necessary.

Now, I see my teenagers follow the crowd. It takes too much time in front of the mirror! My very-rarely-pimpled skin may be genetically blessed but it is not the case for so many. What do you do? What is your skin care regimen? What products have you tried and what can you say about them? Have you tried Proactiv? Give us your proactiv reviews. What results have you received? Let the world know and learn from you!

When I was young, my hands get wounded when washing dishes. We thought it is because of the soap but as I grew, I overcame the unwanted allergy. Now, my hands itch, especially the ends of my fingers, when I eat something that I’m allergic to.

Now as I am old, I still have the allergies that manifest in my skin over my chest and back. They are like small reddish circles but embossed on my skin. When they are beside each other, I get some maps on my skin. When I eat less of the allergens, they merely subside. They don’t go away totally. If only I can just use proactiv…but it’s not acne at all…or something topical that I can spread.
When I go out to go shopping or for a ride from one place or another, I can’t help but notice that in a crowd of 20, there is one whose face is not sightly appealing. I’m not even talking about contour or shape but the skin itself.

Frankly, it has never been my problem. I don’t put on makeup so maybe it is a factor. Being allergic to so many allergens I am wary to put stuff on my face. I notice, though, when I eat chicken often, I get red and white polka dots bevelled on my skin like my face, back, chest and arms. Having asthma, I guess it is my dillema. No solution could give it a cure but to avoid the allergens.

How about those with troubling acne? The problem with acne, apart from the eewy look is the lowered self-confidence it naturally entails. This really gets to be a big problem with teens and singles-who-are-looking-for-admirers-slash-mates. Do you have acne treatments that you know work?
