by Cecile Cinco

Yesterday I was at Shopwise Sucat. I got another set of buy-one-take-one Mega Box plastic rectangular containers which first pair I bought two days prior. The first time I bought it, it was at P99/pair. The big sign says so although the individual sticker price stuck on each pair was P125. When I got to the counter, it was P99. I was happy. I got myself a pair of containers for my craft stuff. So that was three days ago.

Yesterday, since I saw the same sets still with the P99 board about 1 1/2 x 3 feet tall, I thought to get another set. After waiting in line and got my items go through the scanner, I saw that the reflected price on the boxes was P125. Of course I said that was wrong so they had to confirm. I told them where I got it. Guess what? When they (the cashier and the bagger) got back, they said the promo just ended the day before!

What??? That is plain manipulative! Although I will really get it at the price, giving the wrong expectation is plainly wrong in a store! They suggested I fill up a complaint form. I almost decided not to asking them if the management really reads those filled-up forms but then I thought if I did not then nothing will ever be read even by the slightest chance.

I filled up the form with all CAPS under what my complaint was all about: “UPDATE YOUR PRICES AND PROMOS!!!” I also filled up my name, email, mobile number and this blog’s url. I’m not sure what effect will it have. Let’s see.

They may have gotten away with it and made several sales out of people who took advantage of the “white lie” (it’s still a sale since it’s buy one take one but with a higher price than what’s hanging as tall as a prep kid) but that trick surely is plain manipulative and bad. It’s very irresponsible if it was merely forgotten. I don’t want a false hope. I just want the truth. If I catch another incident, I just might not buy from them again. There are other stores that are cheaper anyway!

An hour ago at 5am, a TV show about theft caught our attention while hubby prepared for work and I was cooking his breakfast. It showed the many circumstances how the modus operandi was worked on. The review/analysis was based on the CCTV camera installed in the fastfood and computer shop, among others. The theft involved no less than 5 actors with the aim to block witnesses and pass on the item from the original person to another so in case he was caught, the item is not with him/her. Check Youtube and you’ll see lots of them uploaded. DON’T leave your valuables unattended. Put it ON YOUR LAP even while eating.

Over the internet, it’s a different story. Credit card and online banking theft has become prevalent especially with phishing sites. An email will be sent to you, for example, from Paypal, notifying you of some security measure and you’re instructed to click the link to fix it. DON’T! Go, instead, to your browser and type the site’s address and check from there. Most likely, the address underneath the link they want you to click goes to another site that just looks like the real site.

Did you know that there’s hi tech pickpocketing? Millions of new credit cards now have RFID chips which makes it easy for perpetrators to just scan your back pocket wallet to electronically get your important information without you knowing. If you have that kind of credit card, mobile phone, ID cards and passport, you need RFID blocking products.

This is a WARNING to everyone who are not aware yet. I have received several times an email supposedly from PayPal, notifying me that my account has been limited and that it is offering me to lift up the limitation. DON’T CLICK!

Here is the screenshot.

If I hover my mouse on that “Remove limitation” link, it is not from PayPal and the sender of the email is from paypal2.com. To be safe, ALWAYS GO TO THE SITE BY TYPING THE URL ON THE BROWSER.

Be on the habit of looking what the underlying link is BEFORE CLICKING to avoid phishing sites.

In the Philippines, especially in the Tagalog region, when a person is hardheaded and insistently goes against what is considered a regulation, that person is tagged pasaway.

I’ve blogged about MRT Poor Security more than a month ago and up until this time, it’s still a problem.

As a rule, the first two train cars are for women, children and senior citizens. The only time a man can use the same cars is if he has with him a child or he’s a senior citizen. So how come the man in the picture is in that car?

If any of you is a friend to this person, please give him a friendly reminder that he’s offensive…at wag syang pasaway, please.

by Cecile Cinco

Last week as we came from Quezon Avenue, we rode the MRT (Metro Rail Transit), as usual, to Ayala. That would take about 15 minutes which could take 45 minutes by bus. As a rule, the first car is dedicated for the use of the women, children, and senior citizens. The only time a man can use that car is when he is with a child.

How then was this man able to enter the car when supposedly there is a security guard screening the people coming through the front area?

He’s surely not a senior citizen, has no one with him, and he sat there all the time he got in while there were other women standing!!! What a nerve! I was seated across and looking at him. He would not look my way. I thought of getting his attention to the women standing but my cowardice got ahead of me. I felt like using one of those pressure washers directly in front in betwen those arms!

Calling the attention of MRT management: your security guard is not doing his job!
