During the typhoon Ondoy, which we experienced last Sept. 26, a lot of ruins emerged. Just in our area, when we left our house for the Feast of Tabernacles last Oct. 1, it was still flooded about 7 inches deep. On the street, it’s about 3 feet deep.

Tricycles that used to bring people back and forth can no longer operate. Instead, drivers made makeshift rafts. No fuel needed but mere patience and physical enthusiasm and drive. The fare is a bit higher, though, which people willingly pay just be brought to the dry end.

We saw many cars awashed by the flash floods while we watched the news. I’m sure a lot are uploaded in YouTube as well. Just search for Ondoy. Houses broke, appliances swam or sank. It was such a great disaster for many. Just recently, typhoon Pepeng landed 3 times in the northern Philippines. It left Pangasinan under floods as well, up until now, which is also the cause of landslides and broken bridges between Baguio City and Pangasinan.

For those who are left poor, it may take time to recover. For those who still got enough money, I’m sure they can easily recover. Stores will get more sales. Those whose cars that need repair will have to go to car shops and perhaps buy auto accessories as well. Supermarkets will have to be filled and emptied as suppliers and consumers go about their daily grind.

That’s life. It’s how we spend it that matters.
